If you see coolant (any amount) in the tank, you cannot do damage to the engine.
It is only when most of the coolant is gone and you keep driving the car that engine damage occurs.
That said, that doesn't mean you can drive the car as is since we have no clue how fast it leaks out and it is just a matter of minutes with hot engine empty of coolant that you do damage.
My biggest suspicion is a leaking heater control valve and that it dribbled coolant onto the hot catalytic converter but if you are unsure about where all the different things are located in the engine bay and what to do, I suggest you find an alternative ride for now.
It is only so much we can help over internet.
You can use the search option here to learn more about coolant leaks.
