Yeah, some mechanics don't like to be told what to do, it's true, and I don't blame them because some well meaning bad advice could come back to bite them down the road... You know, it's not essential to have a Saab tech, but you need (as a minimum) a good indy with an open mind (that is true for any brand of car really, but especially for European cars). A Saab specialist will know the common failures and little tricks to make repairs faster and better, and ultimately more cost effectively. I had major work done on one of my Saabs on the road by an "all brands" mechanic + he did a great job - but he had the characteristics I mentioned above - patient, an open mind, enjoyed the challenges + problem solving of a unique car... that's important... other than that, these cars are pretty easy to deal with...
good luck!
