Platinum plug life expectancy experiences Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Wed, 17 Oct 2012 04:29:45 In Reply to: Spark plug change, Bwana [Profile/Gallery] , Tue, 16 Oct 2012 23:34:54 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My son's GrandAm uses platinum plugs. At almost exactly 100K miles, the published life expectancy for platinum plugs, his car started to suffer from mis-fire issues. It is no fun changing the back side plugs on a V6 engine in the middle of a Michigan winter in the driveway.
My wife's 9-3 2.0T uses platinum plugs. I replaced hers at 45K miles, Saab recommends 60K miles, and I was surprised at the amount of tip erosion.
Saab probably says 60K miles for the 2.3 Aero engine but I did mine at 40K based on what I saw with the plugs from the wife's car.
