Reading on here yesterday made me think that the drain plug on my 2002 9-5 automatic should be magnetic. Before I took it out, I ordered a magnetic drain plug from eeuroparts that came with a tip that stuck out from the end and it was definitely a magnetic plug. The problem is that when I went to put it in, the plug length including magnetic tip was probably a little too long - I started running into resistance when threading it in so I backed it out and used my original plug. The original is shorter but did not seem to pick up and of the small metal traces that cam out in the ATF fluid. In 210,000 miles I don't think this fluid has ever been changed. I have done 5 partial drain and refills so far and will keep doing them until I like what I see. The last ones are being done with a case of Toyota Type IV (3309 synthetic). I am going to drain it again this evening and see if the plug acts magnetic, but I don't think it is unless someone else knows for sure. -JerryC
