V6 in current car 01 Posted by jeff02 [Email] (#2992) [Profile/Gallery] (more from jeff02) on Sun, 11 Nov 2012 12:05:18 In Reply to: CORRECTION timing belt done twice, Japida, Sun, 11 Nov 2012 09:45:09 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
We have had a V6 01 wagon since it was almost new. The only reason we purchased it was because of a super demo deal. It now has 170k and is still running fine. Had to do the belt changes, etc. It will need another belt change soon and am debating keeping or selling, but it has been a good car. Only non-regular maint. issue was a turbo replacement at about $130k which I did.
Even though this engine is nothing special. It is based on an Opel (Opal) v6 design and it was in the 9000 CDE (belt changes every 30k) and in the Cantera (and in some Saturns). It has nice smooth power, but milage is 26 / 27 max.
I have seen that these engine do blow head gaskets from time to time. Ours have been fine.
I agree with most; that if at all possible, get the i4, but if you get a smoking price on the V6 it would not be the end of the world.
