I ran 215/55R16 Michelins last year. I am now on Nokian Hakka R 205/55R16 on alloy rims for winter this year. My normal tire size is 225/45R17. The 205/55 is a closer match to that 17" size than the 215/55, but 215 was stock on the non-aeros with 16" rims and also on the NG9-3. Both are probably closer than 205/60? Newer 9-5's get 235/55R17 which are closer to the 215 diameter. Check all this on the miata tire calculator website. Anyway, all of these sizes are compatible, with just a little speedo/odo error depending on how your car was set up. If you wanted the extra width of 215, that would be the right size to use.

I don't know much about the WR series because we get loads of snow and ice here - though many do use the WR here, I prefer something a little more oriented to deep snow for ski days (and narrower which is also better in deep snow)... but that gives up some handling. I doubt you would need that at all in the UK, and the WR series would likely be great...

So far, I am really happy with the Hakka R's. Really not too much compromise on dry considering the R rating and the super deep tread. Will be interesting to see how they do on snow and ice (which could come any time now!)...
