2006 9-5 fuel gauge acting up

First, I hope I am not duplicating another thread, I have looked all over Saabnet and can only seem to find -05 fuel pump and sender info.
Now, my car likes to show dead empty on the gas gauge when the tank is full or within about 2 gallons of full, and then about mid tank it drops and also on a few other occasions.
Sounds like this happens from time to time and I am wondering about other 06- cars that have had something similar.
In another thread a where SWEDECAR said he wasn't completely sure but thought the sending unit could be serviced independently of the pump, but that access was terrible through the floor under the back seat.
I'm trying to plan how and how soon to address this annoyance based on complication and expense.
Wondering if the sender is still somewhat serviceable (sounds like on earlier cars there is access to the contacts that send the signal to clean) without replacing parts, and whether I will have to drop the tank to find out.
Thanks in advance.
