Just got done with rear susp refresh on my 04 aero wagon. Shocks (cheapies for now), poly trailing arm bushings, 4 new outer lateral arm bushings, spring spacers. Summary for those considering this are:
1 - very dyi able. Follow fix my saab or planoff's online tutorial. Having said that, prepare for usual stuck bolts, tight clearances, scraped knuckles, etc.
2 - rose bush tool is a MUST! Can't even imagine how to do this without.
3 - removing first shock nut (the one on top of the shock shaft) took me a few hours and more than a few curse words. After trying everything (vise grips, bench vise, impact wrench, etc) finally gave up and just split nut and shaft in half with dremel metal fringing wheel. Took all of 5 min. Next one didn't even try to remove nut - just cut it same way. Second nut took me 10 min start to finish.
4 - be aware oem front trailing arm bush has 2 sleeves to saw through. First is thin metal, second is aluminum with flange on it. Not hard to saw through, but takes a few minutes and access isn't great.
5 - 22mm eBay spacers brought ride height back to perfect. Will remeasure in a few weeks after shocks settle to reconfirm.
6 - stamped steel shock mounts may have small shims on the bottom 2 mounts. One side of mine had 1 shim, other side zero. Eeuro shows 2 per side (#40 on rear susp diagram). Are these needed/required? I'm second owner so not sure if previously theses were lost or never there to start.

Rear is definitely more connected and settled now.

On to front shocks, control arm bushings, and ball joints next weekend! Are new strut mounts required for this or can old ones be reused with new bearings? Also, what are the chances of needed new bellows and bump stops?

Psyched to have a fun to drive car again!

Thanks
Ron
