I'm in Canada and use Rust Check. My indy uses Krown. Either way, if you spray inside every cavity with the creeping stuff, the car will last pretty well. You can get either in formats that are diy friendly for small jobs, but I'm not sure I'd want to do a whole car at home myself considering the mess and it only costs $100. But a tall aerosol can of the stuff is $10, and with 2 cans you can easily hit most of the key areas. I also do touch ups and spray otherwise inaccessible areas while doing other work.
I don't know if there are many places in the US that do this, but if you're in upper NY state, there are places just across the border in Quebec that do Krown or Rustcheck. Any Canadian Tire store carries rustcheck in a spray can and usually in a larger container (for a spray gun)...
a couple years ago I had our 1993 c900 parked next to an identical one I was scavenging parts off of... the big difference: our car was oily, their car was dry but had rust forming in every nook and cranny. I can live with the grime!
