I briefly owned an 07 Volvo XC70 from Minneapolis and there was no rust anywhere. It did have low miles when I got it (little over 50K) and original owner was fanatic about washing and garaging it. If you are in SC and can't see the car in person before committing, why not pay an indy mechanic to go over it for you in a pre-purchase inspection and take a look at the underbody?
Not only did the Volvo unfortunately handle nothing like a Saab, it was also not even close to the original Volvo XC70 from '98-2000. Numb steering and way too isolated from the road. Last time I will buy a car without test driving exact same year and model in advance. Incidentally, I replaced the Volvo with an '06 9-5 SportCombi and love it. Recently flirted with getting an Acura wagon but decided to stay with the 9-5. It is a great car.
