It is possible that a faulty ABS/ESP controller could cause some engine performance related issues. Part of the controller program is designed to intervene throttle body functions in order to reduce engine torque output in the event of a skid or loss of traction.
So. To answer your question: In theory, (depending on the exact internal malfunction of the controller) it is possible.
I have seen on a few VW before where someone had installed/swapped out the wrong ABS controller or programmed it incorrectly and cause these types of issues. Intermittent loss of throttle command/response. or intermittent loss of power.
However, I cant say that i have actually experienced this in a SAAB.
