That's a waste of money - I have to go back 15 yrs to when I last replaced an alternator - and typically see 150k + on them or the life of the car.
If the bearings are failing it tells you the rebuilt is junk or any component for that matter. I'd question what your mechanic is using - I've not had to replace the alternator on my Saabs - but quality rebuilt starters alternators etc can be generally be a safe bet. But in your case having been burnt thrice you may want to consider OEM.
I'd also be seriously questioning the mechanic you are using - he may be buying cheap rebuilts and marking up the price to you.
