I had the original alternator fail years ago. Indy put in a local rebuilt and it failed within a couple of weeks. When I took it back, the owner was surprised that the mechanic had put in the local rebuilt (he was on vacation at the time) and commented that he only uses the Bosch remanufactured alternators for that reason. He replaced it with Bosch, reminded his staff of which alternators they should be using, and its been perfect since.
The other thing worth a look is the condition of the positive battery cable. The corrosion that erodes the cable over time can drastically increase the resistance and cause overheating conditions on the alternator, as I understand it.
Good luck
