What's confusing to me is that you say it is a 2007 but the fuel pump hole looks like a 2005 and older.
Or maybe your car is not a US spec car and that they still used the older style pump in 2007 when US had gone over to the more complex type that is also used in the 9-3 which you have to drop the tank to replace.
That pipe is just flexible enough so you can wrestle it up trying to find the sweet spot where you have enough room. But it takes a little bit of strong hands to get it to plop up.
