Just that they don't break all at once. In My Experinece: First they cracked, then they slipped and the HVAC has a snit and shut itself into "don't blow from the vents" mode. Driver side, actually. Calibrating, it threw a code. The indie told me, when he swapped in the aluminum Saab Site (?) replacements that it's when the degradation is ignored that the arms get out of sync to the point where the stepper breaks the shaft. Now you have more problems, although the there are now repair kits for that save you from disassembling the entire dash.
What I do recommend, and it's mainly for folks who can't abide being left by the side of the road, is CPS at 75K, fuel pump at 120K, and possibly the water pump at similar mileage as the fuel pump. The water pump is kind of optional - they will give some warning, but they do go very quickly, I'm told. That's because they hide the dripping, until the bearing bites the dust. Mine never left a drop on the driveway, but there were red stains at the weep hole.
Other than that (CPS, fuel and water pumps) most of the typical failures won't stop you from getting home. Even the DIC failures usually give a warning code (except the ProParts DIC from eEuroparts, it just dies, I'm told - even by eEuro).
