...but not by much, in the mileage department. Easily capable of 30+ on the highway, they really don't suffer being driven in city traffic well, as far as mileage goes. I have a 99 wagon with the LPT4 + Auto, and it gets almost exclusively short trips to my commuter lot, and returns a whopping 15 MPG. Last tank was over 18, but I had to throw in a 175 mile mostly highway day to get that.
A 4 with a 5-speed manual might average more than 20 in city driving, but if you're looking for a lot more than that for around town, you may need to look at something else.
