Hi: After reading the posts, you may want to consider another mechanic that knows these cars better. His testing procedure was not conclusive given the symptoms.
1) The CPS fails in a way that can be intermittent, thus the DIC swap is not conclusive. The CPS should be replaced anyway and total should be something around $100. This would be the first try.
2) When the DIC fails, usually there is a burnt rubber / electrical smell that is easy to sniff out. have you come across this?
3) When a DIC fails, you almost always get a check engine light and when decoded has codes (See this board).
4) When the fuel pump goes a lot of the time there is no code. Engine simply stops. There is an easy test for this. Spray a bit of starter fluid in the throttle body after removing the turbo pipe. If car hits after that probably fuel pump and / or measure the fuel pressure at the engine at the measurement point.
In any case if you do get a new DIC, make sure to get the old one back (mark it somehow) and if it is something else, you probably have a good backup DIC.
