Sorry you got ripped off on the warranty.

You're kinda at a crossroads. Three choices.

You can sell the car now before something else like this goes;

You can trust your Tech wholly and absolutely, and just write checks; or

You can get down in the weeds and learn all the idiosyncracies of your model, thru this forum and otherwise. Preferably do all or almost all the work, or get a son or neighbor's kid taking orders, ordering your own parts, etc.

Hard to second guess your guy. None of us out here know all the processes this guy went through to decide what needed doing. He could've got to this diagnosis and recommendation purely by chance or he may know as well as anyone precisely which course is most appropriate.
