I think you should drop the oil sump immediately if the car is of value to you. This is not normal, even for a car this age. Possibly check the oil pressure before with a gauge if you want confirmation of low pressure. The oil pickup o-ring will need to be replaced and you may as well buy a new pickup as it is cheap enough and this avoids the cleaning job if it is very clogged.
