I couldn't stand that review. So much so that I had to give 'em both barrels. Here's what I sent them. Enjoy:

Dear editors,

Your 9-5 review seriously makes me question the competence of your editors.

My 2001 9-5 is quite simply the best value out there for the money. Should I be boring myself to death with a run of the mill 3 series BMW, or paying an exorbitant amount for an overpriced 5 series which can't carry four adults and luggage as comfortably? And don't even go to the Japanese cars. The Infinitis I've driven felt, to put it mildly, pathetic compared to the 9-5 at fast speeds.

Cup holder is quirky? How about, cup holder is the coolest design out there? Couldn't figure out the rear view mirror? Look, I have news for you, if you are CAR experts and you couldn't figure out the mirror, that's pretty pathetic.

Everyone likes to trash Saab's front wheel drive. What they never talk about is that if you actually know how to drive a car, you can keep up with almost anything on the road. They also don't mention that you'll be merrily passing every other car in its class that's stuck in a snowbank while you're cruising up to Tahoe.

And styling? The Japanese cars mostly look like they are designed to appeal to 16 year old boys. Gimmicky, with stuck on plastic, and with no continuity at all. Whatever the fashion of this year is - we'll do it!

What your review tells me is that what Edmunds understands and rates highly is the middle-of-the-road, the dull, the standard, design that aspires to be average, and certainly nothing that would challenge the status quo.

If you were a radio station, no doubt you'd be playing the top 40, and that's about it. Well, I'll check back with you if I need information on a Ford Taurus Station Wagon or a Toyota Camry, but if a C-minus is all you can give to a 9-5 Aero, it tells me you understand good design in sport sedans about as much as McDonald's understands haute cuisine.
