I pulled the rubber cable-cover hose off the trunk end of the cable and could immediately see that 2 wires are completely broken/separated and 2 are mangled. at least one pair shows fusing where they got hot and likely blew the fuse. If that isn't the problem with my central locking issue, it is a problem that needs a fix. Thanks for mentioning threads on the issue. I can see now the "Trunk Wire-Harness repair" at saabdiy/home/trunk-lid-wire-harness. thanks for the help. When it warms up a bit I will do the step by step repair (using the correct wire which I will buy when I get more fuses). Til then, I am glad I tied a cord to the release handle. I can still open the trunk from the inside of the car. Thank you very much for the help on this item. I really appreciate it..
