I did this quick repair over a year ago. And it still holds up. (Mind you, I have an '01 MY, so I am not looking for longevity repair...)
Instead of pulling on the existing wire to re-connect the broken ends, I went ahead and cut off approx 1" (or more) on each side of the broken wire. That way the repaired ends are away from the highly "stress-area."
materials:
The 18 AWG jumper wire was approx 3" long.
The 1/8" shrink tubing was approx 3/4" long (x2). (That what I had on
hand.)
The repair was very simple. Twist the jumper wire to each end of the broken wire. Slide the shrink tubings over the joints; apply a little heat to the tubings for a snug fit.
Secure the wire bundle with electrical tape or tywrap (x2).
