I doubt I've put much more than 34k *km* on a set of tires... I figure they are done once I'm down to about 4mm for summers, 5-6mm for winter... otherwise water displacement can become an issue. I rotate every 3-5k and still there is usually something that wears unevenly + I like stickier more performance oriented rubber. Have you tried the Michelin touring all seasons? I think there are some here that many love and get many miles out of...

I'm always amazed by people getting 50+k miles out of a set of tires! amazing! I can see the appeal for someone who puts a lot of miles on the cars. We don't especially (our saabs have a pretty tough existence: just about every mile is "well earned").
