It's always two sides to the coin and in reality it doesn't make sense to carry all parts that "might" break and leave you stranded somewhere.
But the IDM, I think, stems back some 10 years when they actually pooped and died just like that and that many and most dealers at the time charged 1-2 hours of diagnostic to replace it before the recall kicked in and that this is one of the very few parts you can replace by yourself on the road (unless you completely botch the red clip removal which several have done).
But you will upset Murphy by carrying that spare IDM so the CKP sensor will die instead or the fuel pump which is more cumbersome to replace at the side of the road.
