I've decided that I want to keep the car for another 4-5 years and want to do some preventative maintenance work to minimize the likelihood of an unanticipated failure. I'd like to get some input from owners of similar higher mileage vehicles of things to replace that might be nearing their lifetime. The car has been major trouble free (bought new-original owner) and I'd like to keep it that way as my son will probably be inheriting it after college-in about a year.
On my list of PM things to do over summer include:
1) Flush brake lines
2) Cooling system flush-replace upper, lower rad hoses, replace thermostat.
am considering replacing radiator, and heater core (both original, antifreeze only partially changed in 10 years)-suggestions??
3) replace all shocks (all original)
Some things I am considering-I don't want to make unnecessary extra work (or spend extra $) for myself but, if you know of something historically that is prone to failure over 100K, I'd like to hear about it...
4) flush/replace clutch fluid?
5) struts?
6) turbo?
7) DI cassette? (my original was replaced at ~60K)
8) repack CV joints and reboot?
9) rebuild alternator?
10) any transmission PM that would be good to do? e.g. fluid/filter replace?
Having owned previous saab turbo (1980) and living with the horrors when the turbo failed at 27K and then 65K, and the aftermath which resulted in replacing the engine with a 16v nonturbo version, I am a little concerned about the turbo failing and the aftermath - head warp, fluids mixing, yada, yada, yada....Any comments on turbo life on the 2004?
Finally - recommendations on source of good quality replacement parts?
thanks for reading/responding
