No way man, don't touch the head bolts, why fix something when its not broke when torquing the head bolts there's a small chance you'll snap the head right off the bolt, or strip the treads out of the block. Now where are we... (Fu*ked is where we are)
Just do the gasket and be done with it. Clean and dry is what the matting surface needs to be. Might need to get a rag and soak up some oil to drop the level of oil that sitting in the head to stop it from running over while your cleaning the matting surface but other than that. Your done, FYI its a good time to paint the valve cover if your looking for added DIY work.
