I think for most people who care about all the aesthetics of their cars taking care of a vehicle inside and out is more about a sense of pride in ownership of something that ranks behind a house in terms of cost, and an appreciation for good things mechanical. Not sure what that has to do with maturity level. But then its just an opinion.
I have noticed people with grease covered, oxidized hunks of stinky engine tend to add engine coolant to their windshield washer reservoir, drive around 4 quarts low and help put their mechanic's kids through college. They must be just dumb as stumps. But that is as unfair a generalization as calling people time wasters and immature for caring about their cars and heaven forbid not worry about what their mechanic might think (If they actually go to a mechanic).
