It's all connected together, tranny/engine/turbo so moving the transmission doesn't help. I looked down into the same area on our 2004 Aero auto wagon and it looks identical to the 2003 Aero. Only way I can see to drop the exhaust is remove the bottom stud on the turbo. Couldn't get it out on the 2003. Maybe I will try your 2 nut technique if and when I try to drop the oil pan again.
