Had to give the guy a counterpoint to the conventional wisdom here. Something to think about. Someone has to say it.
This is my Saab number 7, obviously, I like my Saabs. But after around a million miles in these cars over the last 30 years, this car - 04 9-5 Aero has caused me more collective headaches than all the others combined, almost all of it electrical, crappy tape terminations, subpar rubber bushings and motor mounts, and the need for a total suspension redo at 100k??? WTF? My Indie does not care much for these cars either - too much GM in them. And I even have had one of those notorious 1994 Saab 900 SE's, which was the second worst one I had.
Maybe I miss the hatchbacks on the other six Saabs. Gotta admit, I do like the 2.0L motor I had in all the others, and the suspension in my old C900 Turbos? Those cars always put a smile on my face. The 9-5? A grimace, as it creaks and bangs down the road with it's Saturn LS suspension all the while you never know when the next TB, or whatever will fail without notice and once again - limp home mode.
At least the engine, turbos and transmissions are good. But I find that other cars are getting better all the time.
As far as spacers in sacked out springs go, I used to race motorcycles and that was a last ditch maneuver, right in there with duct tape...usually meant DNF at the end of the day.
