I hate to write this on a Saab board, but I think it is more if you love the cars and want to have/keep one than which is most reliable. If you compare reliability of a like year Saab to something like a Honda or Toyota you might cry. Like one of the first posters mentioned, if you want him to have a reliable, or at least a known car, give him yours and get a newer one (newer 9-3 Aero's with the 2.8L V6 are GREAT fun). If you want him to have something reliable and reasonably cost effective to fix, I would have to recommend a Honda as we have had great success with them. My father-in-laws Accord (2004) has needed a total of $1500 worth of parts (inlcuding brakes and tires) in 200K miles. We did install a new clutch this past summer, only major repair. Food for thought.
