routine maintenance. Posted by Snowmobile [Email] (#686) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Snowmobile) on Tue, 6 Jan 2015 08:03:12 In Reply to: Thermostat - how urgent?, steve, Sat, 3 Jan 2015 09:57:23 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
At least if you listen to Tom Townsend, the tstat should be a routine maintenance item that is changed when you service the cooling system (which I figure one should do every couple years depending on mileage etc). These are inexpensive parts so always use OEM. This is good insurance vs the tstat sticking, and though they seem to commonly stick open (too much cooling), sticking closed could be very bad news. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure in this case.
That said, it will be -30 overnight here the next few days so there would be no way I would be doing that job in my driveway. Be careful if you drain when it is cold not to break the plastic petcock drain. Everything gets brittle when it's cold, as does one's dexterity and temper... Heck, I considered taking our 9-5 to my indy to change the battery yesterday (except they would be busy post-holidays and it was more effort to move the car than to do the work). Working on cars outdoors in winter is no fun!! There are times I envy all those southerners on this site!
