Ah -- so just to be clear -- on the fuel economy screen, mine shows how far you are going / gallon or liter (i.e., miles per gallon or K per liter), so higher = less consumption. That's why I was confused what you were looking at.
Regarding your new development, start with getting the battery tested. Just because there was no change when you tried a boost didn't mean the battery is OK. You may have had a bad connection. Electrical gremlins are often the fault of the battery or bad connections at the terminals or even bad battery cables themselves, sometime being more or less severe.
I had all manner of annoying cranking issues until I tested and replaced the positive battery cable and battery.
