Last Saturday, I had a stumble at highway speed, followed by another about 10 miles later, that then pretty quickly "deteriorated" with loss of power and then the flashing CEL. Thankfully I was only about a mile and a half from a dealer near my work location when the CEL hit so was able to nurse the car in. Turns out it was misfires in both DIC banks (V6). I wrote about my experience and good fortune with AutoZone and the folks at the dealer here (http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/9-5/index.html?bID=261407). I got the parts and the car back yesterday.
What was really troubling me was the lack of any apparent issue leading up to this -- no discernible stumbles and certainly no CELs, flashing or not! It surprised me that there would be failures in both DICs so suddenly.
This morning, sitting outside the pool waiting for my daughter, it struck me how absolutely smooth and vibration-free the engine was now idling. While the engine was far from rough before, at idle there would always be the periodic slight vibration or idle adjustment, almost like the a/c compressor cycling on or off. In hindsight, maybe these were occasional minor misfires -- not persistent enough to set a CEL, but there nonetheless.
At any rate, my experience rapidly became a bad misfire situation, rectified by new plugs and DICs, and in hindsight, I may have had some occasional warning signs building up.
Good luck.
