Was checking the timing chain tensioner length (right at 15mm now at 236k miles BTW). while putting it back I broke the plastic plunger insert that goes inside the spring. dont ask me how...(face palm). anyway there is about 5-6mm of the stem of the plastic plunger remaining so it will indeed still fit inside the spring. so...opinions. will it be OK as long as I can get it to stay inside the spring while putting it back in? some oil on it will seem to hold it in there OK just not as good of course as original length. so...being that I doubt I can get just the plunger unless someone has an old tensioner they no longer are using and will send me one I will need to likely buy entire new tensioner. think this will be OK with the old 6mm stub one? at least for a few weeks until I can get a new plunger or entire tensioner? I plan to go ahead and set the tensioner at the 15mm it was when I pulled it out and it won't push back in without the ratchet release on the side. right? so what do you guys think? put it back in and roll with it until I get a new plunger or tensioner? I plan to get the whole timing chain and all done later this year. good enough for 6 months? thoughts? OEM one is $103. eEuro nonOEM one is $35 so I dont mind ordering one but will need to drive the car this week with the broken off plunger.
