Since you are using 55W please disregard my commentary in the post above.
Another quality bakelite socket (bakelite) should work fine. I am not aware that this is a component prone to failure. Porcelain would be a strong upgrade.
Note: When you splice in the new socket DO NOT SOLDER THE SPLICE; use a butt connector and crimp it. The high current flow in the headlight circuit will heat up the solder joint and it'll eventually fail. This is exactly what happens inside of the headlight control relay (the orange one).
