Today I installed Kilen brand struts on one of two 2006 SC's. They look more like the Stabilus than most of the other brands. From your experience I lubed the balls with Lucas red 'sticky grease'. The hatch operates very smoothly, and there is definitely more 'oomph' from mid range to full up position than with the old struts. There is not enough 'oomph' to pop up the hatch with no hands from down near the point of closure - but then this may not be desirable either.
We'll see how they do in Minnesota in the winter. Old SAAB Stabilus struts still prevented the hatch falling from full open. They were very tired though; there was oil leaking from both onto the headliner - only a little, thankfully.
I may splurge on the SAAB branded ones for the other '06 and run a side-by-side comparison.
