You will probably need a quick trip to Harbor Freight Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sun, 15 Nov 2015 05:16:11 In Reply to: dwalsh96@comcast.net, Dan [Profile/Gallery] , Sun, 15 Nov 2015 03:58:17 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
You will need a 24-inch long socket extension. I also received a recommentation to place a stubby wobble extension on the end which I already owned.
Only two of the six teeth in the old plug were fully intact, the others were deformed or missing. A couple fresh scrapes caused by me yesterday but all the other marks were old. I was careful to not over tighten this plug on reassembly. I wish now I had placed a shmear of grease on the threads. Alumiinum plug into aluminum casting doesn't seem to warrant anti-sieze.
I didn't need to remove anything to access the plug as my 3/8 extension slipped by all the hoses. I did need to remove the rigid tube exiting the Turbo By-Pass Valve in order to get my funnel with hose in position to re-fill the transmission. A longer hose would solve that issue.
A very small pair of Vise-Grips from below might be able to remove a stripped out plug but you might also need to remove the downpipe for swing space.
