Hi Anders,
I forgot to mention replacing that cable - yes, I had it done a couple of years back and can't get over the difference it made. It was amazing - starts on 2 cranks, nice bright lights, no electrical gremlins. Wonderful.
It's easy to throw a new battery in and address some of the low voltage symptoms for a time, but as these cars age, voltage testing that cable should be part of the changing system test regimen. The difference the cable made was astounding.
Oh, and on the alternators, the second one was replaced after the cable but use to bearing failure, not charging issues, and the current battery in the first fresh battery since the cable replacement. The battery is two years old and is testing strong. I will be curious to see how this one lasts.
I'm in the northeast, so no quite as much issue with the ambient heat as some others.
