Depending on your indies knowledge of the Saab 9-5 he might have pulled out the bolt washers that fits inside the alternator bracket becouse they were in the way of the new alt installation.
Which is crazy becouse to adjust them one just needs to press them into the bracket.
Another senecio is one the bolt washers inside the bracket was so loose it fell out and the indie has no knowledge of it missing and bolted up the new alt with one bolt washer gone leaving the alt cockeyed.
In anycase I'd bet money on one or both of them washers in the alt bracket are missing.
Your right on about the solutions
One is he intended your alt to be cockeyed as to ride hard on your plastic idler wheels causing premature failure which would create more business for him
Two, you could insists he fixes it where in one case he would be happy to replace the bracket washer that went missing and it was totally unintentional it fell out,
or if it was intentional he'd be happy to install it all the while wrecking something else to have your car back in his shop in a few weeks making money off you.
Three, pin point the problem yourself as in identifying one of the bolt washers did go missing and fix it in the summer.
I'd do # three myself, at lest you found that there is a problem before some major failure
