POR15 is your friend. Posted by Snowmobile [Email] (#686) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Snowmobile) on Tue, 29 Mar 2016 06:55:41 In Reply to: Dog leg rust, Mike Johnson, Tue, 29 Mar 2016 04:09:00 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
That stuff is tenacious. I did our dog legs a couple years ago using that and have done a bunch of c900 repairs with it also. Just follow the instructions. One tip I picked up on from their website - you can use it like epoxy resin over fibreglass - ie coat the area with POR15, then soak fibreglass cloth in POR15 and apply directly over a hole. The stuff is strong when it sets up. This is quite a useful technique over small holes. I have not tried it on anything larger than a dime, but it worked well on our minimally corroded dogleg.
Our worst dogleg had a small lift or bubble in the paint, about 3/4" long by about 1/4" wide. I could see a bit of orange at the edge of the paint so I thought I would nip that in the bud. Otherwise it looked perfect. I chipped off the paint bubble and wirebrushed. Then removed the fender and wirebrushed some more! The pictures below show the state of the corrosion at the time! Definitely what you see is the tip of the iceberg! This rots from the inside out due to dirt/salt/slush accumulation.
