at 12 years old for a car I bought used for a steal... well, lets say I'm not too worried about warranties!
Yes, I repainted myself. It is not perfect, but you have to get right up close to notice. I probably could have done a better job - I just found a closely matching rattle can, but you can get exact paint matches if you want. Mask the area, prime, paint, clear (though I don't think I even did clear). Remove the masking. Wet sand at 2000 grit to blend. You probably can't make it look worse than it already does, right? Maybe $20 in supplies to paint, plus a tiny can of POR15 (once you open it, the can is done - you can not expose it to humidity, so I always buy the tiny cans).
Very easy repair. You should see the floor job I had to do on my c900 winter beater!
