Bruce, I think a lot of the issues are location related. I mean, Northern cars are exposed to more road salt and extreme cold weather. My 2004 Arc is very similar to yours (different wheels, I have a gas cap release you don't) that's spent more time further south and none of the corrosion issues are a problem. think, Louisiana, North Carolina, Tennessee. I spend more time replacing small hoses, replacing the brake fluid to reduce moisture in the system, replacing about 4 quarts of auto trans fluid every 15,000 miles or so; replacing motor mounts, pulleys and tensioner, wheel hubs, rear shocks. 200,000 miles so far on original water and fuel pumps, but I've replaced my alternator twice. Some of this is just unpredictable.
