Hello,
I have replaced quite a few inner cv joint/companion flanges on the 9-5's. If you open the inner it a tripod bearing/companion flange set up just like the earlier Saabs. Same with the failure you get the rust grease. But the inner driver is not pressed into the transmission like the earlier ones. They actually have a metal ring that you have to split to get the tripod bearing out.
So you change them just like most modern half shafts by just popping them out of the transmission. The passenger side just comes off the intermediate shaft. I sometimes use a brass drift to seperate them.
Just make sure if you purchase a new one it comes complete. Sometimes the only have the tripod bearing. Saab use to sell the seperate parts and may still. I haven't checked lately. Good Luck, Bernie
