If you abuse the alternator by using it as a charger , you end up heating up the battery cable , and overworking the alternator . Getting a jump start is a bad situation . Replace the battery , and the cable would probably be next . Plan on alternator failure in the future .
I just did the whole job on my car . Alternator , cable , battery .
Battery testing is a touchy subject for me . I think just replacing the battery is the best solution . I would also say that a dual battery system is the best , but I haven't seen that set up in a Saab .
The last time I had my battery tested , the guy charged me five bucks , it used to be free @ most Interstate Dealers . Stay away from that brand , it is not the same .
Another thing to check is the brake light switch , sometimes they short .
Trunk light on ? It could kill a weak battery.
