Is a stick and that is its premier advantage over other early 9-5s. And it has that weather radio which is great (or was great until the radio blew up).
We've had more issues with the 2001 than with the other 3 combined IF you put aside the fact I've replaced 3 alternators in 2 of the the 3 newer ones. All the stuff everyone reads about here such as slack head bolts, myriad theft system failures - stuff like that.
To me, you want 2004 and newer in most instances for 4 basic reasons:
a) The Aisin automatic in the 2004 and newer is vastly better than the 4 speed from earlier;
b) Sludge issues are vastly less common in 2004 and newer examples;
c) Looking past the few base model 2004 and 2005 wagons, you will get the full blast High Output turbo and contrary to intuition, these HO motors are less problematic than the LPT versions; and
d) When shopping you don't have to worry about getting there and finding out it is a V6 after all.
Do I like the 2004-5 styling better than 2006-2009? Sure, some. But these cars are not getting younger. Owning 10-15 year old cars is one thing but if I get a couple more I hope they're more recent and have been exposed to the world a little less time.
