I had the rear sub-frame bushings done at 147,000 on my wife's '04 Aero Kombi. As others say, the >'06 bushings are recommended. Are you planning on doing all 6 or just the two rear ones? They're the two that usually go and cause rattling of the sub-frame against the chassis. To do all 6 is a big job - probably >10 hours labor. Checking posts on this board you'll find that it's rarely necessary to change out the front two.
In doing the two rear only, I bought the Sealy VS721 installation kit on eBay from the UK. It was about $100. The bushings themselves are about $15 from some of this site's sponsors. I had a local shop do the labor and use the tool I bought. They charged me $178. So I had it done for <$300.
I agree on the improvements in road-feel and handling. This should be planned as "normal maintenance" every 150,000 miles, just like a fuel pump.
