In my experience most cars no longer run that hot of a stat - could be efficieny along with emmissions.
I'll watch for your fan solution should you post it, I recall that on my 1986 9000T the fan would run after shutdown on warm/hot days, was surprised with the 9-5s that this rarely seems to happen, and yes the underhood temps are a baker's delight - in fact when in a pinch for making something for dinner and I don't have anything but frozen food items - and I recently arrived home - guess where I defrost stuff.
