anything is possible, but these days catastrophic DI Cassette failure is pretty rare. unless you have a chinese knock off?
your symptoms and CEL sure sound like a massive vac leak as roger suggested. the intake tube pops off and the way its assembled it sort of holds itself in place so it looks and feels like its in place. but if you give a gentle tug upward if its loose it will separate.
But maybe I misunderstand the symptoms: when it cranks, do you hear it "try' to catch ... sputter ... and die? if so ... if you hear signs of life ... its likely a massive vac leak. If not the intake tube, somewhere in the intake.
but if nothing at all, just cranking with no sign of life, I'd consider the crank position sensor or catastrophic DIC failure.
