"Rubber" comes in many forms. Most of the typical automotive off-the-shelf stuff is Buna or EPDM and will degrade when exposed to oil, fuel, and thermal cycling.
What you want is Viton or Fluorocarbon Elastomer (FKM). It's chemical resistance is much higher but it's not cheap. I found 4mm ID Viton tubing on Amazon but it's $175 for 25'. Unless you're feeling flush, IMO high quality silicone is a fraction of the cost and nearly as good.
