I've got the same dilemma. But I won't be getting another 9-5.
For the last year or so I have been thinking of getting my wife a 9-3 wagon, year 2006 to 2008.
She has to haul around the kids so a 9-3 might not be big enough.
Otherwise I'll get her a used wagon - Volvo, BMW, Mercedes.
Just waiting for the right deal to come around.
We have a 2002 Aero and a 2003 Linear, both with about 160k miles.
They both have issues, the Aero needs a new turbo and an AC compressor.
The Linear needs a new ABS module and has a random shut down issue.
A few months ago I spent about $1000 to have a new AC compressor installed in her Linear.
Then it was another $400 to replace the intake manifold gasket a month later.
Then she broke down in the Target parking lot, serpentine belt idler broke. $400 repair.
(Two years ago I replaced all the idlers and tensioner)
So almost $2000 in the last three months :(
Tough pill to swallow but I'm only home on the weekends and I couldn't do it myself.
I really hate having a shop work on the cars because of the cost.
My wife is driving one of her dads cars till I can figure it out the random shut down issue.
Which is probably a good sign that I should get her something newer.
I'm going to keep my Aero for at least another 5 years since I rebuilt the engine about 70k miles ago.
